Meet our Executive Director

Heidi Schaaf
I am Heidi Schaaf, Executive Director for The Legacy at Southpointe Drive in Greenville, SC and SC Operations Specialist for Navion. I moved to SC from SD in 2005 to oversee sales and operations for The Greenville News, a Gannett newspaper in Greenville. My family and I fell in love with the area and knew that even though our families still resided up north, SC was fast becoming a new home for me, my husband and daughter. I have an extensive background in operations and sales management. I was inspired to change my industry direction and leave my journalism/mass media background to pursue a career in senior living when my mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease in 2015. Her diagnosis was bittersweet to me. Communication is obviously a huge part of my life and when I was failing to communicate with my mom 1300 miles away it was time for me to make some adjustments about me. I started watching Teepa Snow videos, reading books about Alzheimer’s, and looked for ways to join my mom’s journey. This new mission sparked the desire to apply for a sales manager position with an assisted living community in Greer, SC; they hired me, with no healthcare background. It was one of the best days of my life and opened a new chapter in my career. I have been in the senior living business since 2016 with the only regret that I didn’t pursue it before then. In 2019, I became an Executive Director and continue to live my dream job by serving our senior population every day.
