If you’ve been considering senior living for yourself or your loved one, you’ve likely come across the term: assisted living. But what exactly does this type of senior living offer? How does it differ from other types of senior living? And what is daily life like for residents in these communities? Here’s what you can expect from assisted living.
Understanding Assisted Living
Assisted living is a type of senior living that offers housing, onsite care, and support with daily activities such as bathing, dressing and medication assistance. This supportive environment is also what makes assisted living different from other types of senior living in that:
- Independent living typically does not offer onsite care or daily support although you may opt to use third-party home health services for those needs.
- Memory care is exclusively for those with Alzheimer’s disease or other types of dementia.
Our assisted living communities are designed to provide just the right level of support to help residents maintain their independence, and many also offer other types of senior living on the same campus for added peace of mind.

The Assisted Living Lifestyle
One of the best benefits of assisted living is the active, enriching lifestyle. Daily life for residents is filled with opportunities to socialize, learn, exercise, explore, grow and create. Our assisted living communities feature our signature Daily Living Program which engages and nurtures each of the six dimensions of wellness: physical, social, intellectual, emotional, purposeful and spiritual.
For example, each of our communities has a Life Enrichment Director dedicated to filling the monthly calendar with classes that fit any interest from cooking to crafts to fitness, as well as clubs, socials, games, volunteer opportunities, religious services, outings and even special events like live entertainment or seasonal fun.
When it comes to dining, all our meals are prepared under the guidance of a certified dietician and involve our Resident Food Council in choosing our rotating menus which include theme dinners and special events. Each meal features two locally sourced entrées as well as several always available options and snacks are available throughout the day.
Even the design of our communities supports our Daily Living Program with lovely common areas to host family and friends as well as beautiful gardens, courtyards and walking paths where residents like to gather and enjoy nature. Many of our communities are even pet-friendly!
